Kelvin Brown was our #1 qualifier for the day with a time of 4.886 followed closely by John McDonald who ran a 4.881. Sikeston's race sure was a HOT day but a great show was put on by the Doorslammers for a record number of spectators at Dyno Dom's. The qualifying rounds also doubled as the semi-finals and finals from the rained out Holly Springs race. The semi-final round was between Duck Dyson and Matt Ellis followed by Ed Brooks and Lynn Howell. Both Dyson and Howell pulled red lights in this round which brought Brooks and Ellis to the finals with Brooks having just run a 4.935 versus Ellis' 4.934. Ellis won the final for the Holly Springs against Brooks, running a near perfect 4.896 with a 0.426 light to Brooks' 4.937 with a 0.480 light. Other winners' from the Holly Springs race included #1 qualifier Jim Clement who qualified with a 4.8836. Moving on to the semi-finals was Ellis and Bandy followed by Dowdy/Pennebaker vs. McDonald. The final round was between Matt Ellis and John McDonald. Ellis had just run a 4.922 with a 0.437 light and McDonald a 4.913 with a 0.440 light. This final was so incredibly close but was awesome to watch between two great drivers. John McDonald took home the win tonight running a 4.903 with a 0.432 light to Ellis' 4.909 with a 0.438 light!! How's that for some racing???
See you all in a few weeks when we are back at US43!!
We had some rain going into the semi-finals and they could not get track dried because there were no other cars besides DDS to help get it dried off. We will finish our semi's and finals in Sikeston in a few weeks. I think we probably saw a couple thousand bikes here today and they will be running their eliminations tomorrow here at Holly Springs. The semi-finals will be between Duck Dyson and Matt Ellis and on the other side of the ladder between Ed Brooks and Lynn Howell. See you in a few weeks!
Due to the high possibility of rain tomorrow in Nashville we are postponing our race to a later date. We will discuss when our makeup date will be at the race next week at Holly Springs. See you all there!
Congratulations to Brandon Frame on the win at his home track at Music City Raceway this past weekend! I apologize for being late in getting this information on here, been trying to get caught up from being gone a week from work last week. I will post race results tonight but will not update points until after this race is done! See you soon in Nashville!
Congratulations to John McDonald on his second DDS win of the year at Memphis International Raceway and to runner up Brandon Frame. I hope to get points and results posted today here as well as on Midsouth Racers. Gearing up for our race next weekend at US43!
Congratulations Bill Wilson on his first DDS win of the year this weekend in Sikeston. It was a late night for the Doorslammers due to a short delay during qualifying for rain. Once the front went through dropping the temperature 20 degrees the track was awesome! Joining us tonight was new member Jim Woods with his Pro-Mod Corvette piloted by T.K. Miller. The Woods/Miller team had a good showing for their first night with the Doorslammers, qualifying with a time of 5.003. The #1 qualifier for the night was John McDonald with a 4.885 on his second qualifying run. Racing was once again tight tonight, with all wins in first round of eliminations clocking in the 4.9 range! John McDonald held on to his title as winner of the burnout contest. Our second round of eliminations showed the fans what our drivers are all about with Duck Dyson pulling out a perfect reaction time of 0.400 and John McDonald killing it with a time of 4.890. Obviously, these two won the points for closest to the index and best reaction time of the night. Entering the finals was John McDonald and Bill Wilson. Wilson ultimately took McDonald at the tree with a 0.403 running 4.941 to McDonald's light of 0.443 and running 4.913. Look for point totals and race results to be up soon!
Congratulations Kelvin Brown on his first DDS win of the 2013 season in I-57 in Benton, Illinois! The stands were full and there were cars lined up all the way to the finish line. Congratulations to Mr. John McDonald on winning the race last night in Nashville!! Although we only had an 8 car field this weekend, the fans were out and the guys put on a great show as always. John also got points for getting closest to our index of 4.89 by getting a 4.8907!! Wow!! Brandon Frame was our #1 qualifier of the night, had the best reaction time, was winner of the burnout contest, and was in the finals racing John! Way to put on a show for your home town! DDS always looks forward to going to the Music City Raceway!! We will be back on July 27th and August 10th!
Look for us next weekend, June 15th, at I-57 in Benton, Illinois.
Congrats Matt Ellis and the Honey Bros racing team on their win this past weekend at Dyno Dom's Raceway in Sikeston. What a beautiful day we had for a race. There were lots of fans and as always a great time with the wonderful staff at this raceway. After a bit of a wait for track cleanup due to an unfortunate breakdown of Louie Williams' car, we got our first round of eliminations in at about 10 p.m. Kelvin Brown was our #1 qualifier for the day with John McDonald close behind. We have so many drivers this year who are right on that index, making for some really exciting racing. At the end of the day, Ellis came from the #7 qualifying spot to beat the #1 qualifier Brown. Points and race results should be up by this evening.
Other important stats from today: John McDonald and Ed Brooks shared the money for best burnout in first round elimination. Lyndell Pennebaker received money for best reaction time at 0.401. Matt Ellis was awarded points for being closest to the index at 4.893.
We are also seeing a huge amount of success in selling this year's t-shirts! Thanks to John and Sherry McDonald for setting us up with our new screen printer!!
See you all in Nashville in a few weeks!!
Congratulations to Duck Dyson for winning the first DDS race of the year, the Jake Dyson Memorial race, at Jackson, TN! Points will be up as soon as I can get them together! See you all in 2 weeks in Sikeston, Missouri!
DDS next race is set to be in Jackson, Tennessee for the Jake Dyson Memorial Race. We are trying our best to fight off the rain so we can get our first race under our belts!!
Our season opener is this Saturday, April 27th at the Sikeston Drag Strip. In the case that we have to cancel due to rain, we will be running on Sunday the 28th. We will post any updates here and on Midsouth Racers.
The Soldier Program is a new program the DDS is doing this year to try and give back to the community. We will host a group of soldiers either active, retired , injured, or family members of soldiers lost in duty. They will be our guest to the races and they will get into the races free. We will feed them and make them honorary crew members for the day. We would like them to be present at the starting line for the invocation and the national anthem before the races start. It is our goal to show these men and women some gratitude for their sacrifice to keep our country safe and free!
The 2013 schedule is now available on the website. Check it out!
The DDS wants to say a big THANK YOU to James Sisk of JSisk Photography! He has been working on photos for our website and we greatly appreciate all of his hard work.
